From July 19 to 25,22 students from the International Elite Engineering School went to Paris,France,to conduct a week-long social practice activity.Focusing on the three major themes of"historical inheritance,international cooperation,and cultural dialogue,"the activity deepened the cultivation of global competence for engineering talents through diverse practices.
Tracing Red Footprints and Inheriting the Spirit of Struggle
The practice group went to the Memorial Hall of the Chinese Students'and Workers'Frugal Study Movement in Montargis for on-site teaching.Through precious cultural relics and historical images,they reviewed the hard-working and frugal study-abroad experiences in France of revolutionary pioneers such as Zhou Enlai and Deng Xiaoping.The students also visited the Neptune Hotel where Zhou Enlai once lived and drew a map of the frugal study-abroad route.Taking the electronic picture book"The New Youth a Hundred Years Ago"as a medium,they realized a cross-temporal dialogue and felt the spirit of"saving the country through industry and serving the country with science."
Engaging in International Front-end Dialogue and Expanding Global Vision
At the headquarters of Arkema Group,the students had in-depth exchanges with senior executives including Chief Technology Officer Armand Ajdari on topics such as material science and technology innovation and global R&D cooperation.They explored cutting-edge directions such as sustainable materials and artificial intelligence applications.Four student representatives shared their cross-cultural growth experiences in Chinese,English,and French.Alumni Adeline Liang and Rick Zhou also provided suggestions for their juniors based on their professional development experiences.In addition,the team visited the headquarters of UNESCO.Through professional interpretation,they learned about its global mission and read the constitution under the olive tree,which symbolizes peace,to deepen their understanding of the mutual learning of civilizations.
Feeling the Humanistic Connotation and Inspiring Innovative Thinking
From the artistic treasures of the Louvre to the ideological milestones of the Pantheon,the students systematically combed through the cultural veins of French culture.At the Musée de l'Orangerie and Monet's Garden,the students personally experienced the integration of art and science and comprehended the Impressionists'exploration of the laws of light and shadow.
This social practice activity has connected the historical depth and global coordinates.Through immersive learning,it has strengthened the three core qualities of excellent engineers in the new era:the mission of the country,cross-cultural cooperation ability,and the integration of science and technology with humanities.In the future,the International College of Excellent Engineers will continue to lead students to feel and learn through practice,and lay a solid foundation for cultivating leading talents facing the community of human destiny.
