2021-07-14

On the evening of 9 July, the founding meeting of the Youth League Committee of the International Elite Engineering School, alongside its inaugural Youth League Members' Representative Assembly and first Student Representative Assembly, convened in Room 833 of the library.

The Youth League Committee Inauguration Ceremony was chaired by Hua Jiajie, Deputy Secretary of the College's Party Branch. Attendees included Wang Yinshen, Deputy Secretary of the University Youth League Committee; Yuan Shuanglong, Vice Dean of the College; counsellors Li Feng and Chen Xuanxi; alongside over 40 student representatives from the Communist Youth League.

The International Elite Engineering School received formal approval from the Ministry of Education in 2019. Established in collaboration with the French Federation of Chemical Engineering Schools, it has already admitted two cohorts of undergraduate students. In his address, Wang Yinshen fully affirmed the youth work undertaken by the preparatory group of the Youth League Committee since its establishment in October 2020, encompassing social practice, innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, and student activities. He extended warm congratulations on behalf of the University Youth League Committee.

Wang Yinshen emphasised that young members of the Academy should remain true to their founding mission, uphold firm ideals and convictions, pursue excellence in scaling the peaks of knowledge, realise their personal value through the great endeavour of achieving the Chinese Dream, and realise their aspirations on the global stage of building a community with a shared future for mankind and fostering a new type of international relations. Finally, Wang Yinshen expressed his hopes for the newly established Youth League Committee of the International Elite Engineering School . He urged the committee to be guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era in its future work, to effectively carry out ideological work among League members and young people, to maintain close ties with them, and to cultivate them into new-era individuals capable of shouldering historical missions. These individuals should aspire to great ambitions, cultivate noble virtues, acquire outstanding talents, and bear significant responsibilities, thereby proving themselves worthy of the heavy responsibility of national rejuvenation.

Chen Xuanxi, Head of the Preparatory Group for the Communist Youth League Committee of the International Elite Engineering School, delivered a work report. The report reviewed the achievements and lessons gained by the preparatory group over the past six months, summarised the key priorities, distinctive features, and responsibilities of the College's Communist Youth League work in the new era, and outlined the guiding principles, development strategies, and primary tasks for the future work of the League Committee.

In his address, Yuan Shuanglong expressed three hopes for all young members of the International Elite Engineering School. Firstly, to strengthen conviction through historical study, steadfastly pursue ideals of excellence, reinforce ideological and political development in practice, and consistently uphold truth, righteousness, and principles, thereby forging the steel-like resolve of ECUST youth and International Elite Engineering School youth in the new era. Second, hone their skills by perpetuating the spirit of diligence and pragmatism. Through tireless study, they should achieve great accomplishments, treating learning as both a responsibility and a spiritual pursuit, and adhering to the principle of applying knowledge to practice and uniting knowledge with action. Third, embrace innovation with ambition and virtue to make a difference. They should view and understand the world through a lens of enterprising innovation and long-term development, making tangible contributions through genuine, hands-on endeavours.

That evening, the inaugural Student Congress of the International Elite Engineering School convened, electing five students—Dai Jiacheng, Nong Hengbin, Song Yuhan, Zheng Feifan, and Pan Libing—as members of the first Student Union Committee. Chen Xianhaoyan, Luo Han, and Dai Ying were elected to the first Student Union Executive Committee.

With the successful conclusion of the assembly, the newly established Youth League Committee and Student Union of the International Elite Engineering School shall wholeheartedly serve their peers, unite and rally young people, advance youth work in the new era, and contribute more youthful positive energy towards the comprehensive construction of a modern socialist nation.
