I. General Provisions
1. The International Elite Engineering School adopts a 3+3 integrated undergraduate - postgraduate training model. To better support the successful completion of studies during the research phase, and in accordance with the Interim Measures for the Management of Postgraduate Academic Scholarships at East China University of Science and Technology, combined with the College's integrated training approach, these Measures are formulated from a perspective of fairness and impartiality.
2. These Regulations apply to master's students enrolled in the integrated undergraduate-postgraduate programme conducted in France or China, who have completed registration and fee payment for the postgraduate stage at East China University of Science and Technology.
II. Award Proportion, Standards and Basic Conditions
1. The academic scholarship awarded in the first year of master's study is the Outstanding Academic Scholarship, with an award standard of RMB 12,000 per annum. The second-year academic scholarship comprises three tiers: First-Class, Second-Class, and Third-Class. First-Class recipients must possess quantifiable research awards and rank within the top 20% by comprehensive academic performance, receiving ¥12,000 per annum. Second-Class recipients must possess quantifiable research awards and rank within the top 50% by comprehensive academic performance, receiving ¥8,000 per annum. The remaining recipients receive the third-tier scholarship, calculated as the average amount remaining after deducting the total sums allocated to the Distinguished and Outstanding Scholarships from the annual scholarship pool.
2. Basic Eligibility Criteria for Postgraduate Academic Scholarships:
Demonstrate devotion to the socialist motherland and uphold the leadership of the Communist Party of China;
Comply with the Constitution, laws, and regulations of higher education institutions;
Exhibit integrity and excellence in both character and academic performance;
Actively engage in scientific research and social practice.
3. Students who have received a disciplinary record of reprimand or higher during their studies are ineligible for consideration. Should recipients of academic scholarships be found guilty of academic misconduct or other violations of laws and regulations, the university may revoke the scholarship and recover the awarded sum.
4. Postgraduate students receiving the Postgraduate Academic Scholarship may concurrently receive other national postgraduate scholarship and grant policies, such as the National Postgraduate Scholarship and National Postgraduate Grant, as well as other university-level postgraduate scholarship and grant policies.
III. Selection Criteria
1. The comprehensive score calculation for second-year postgraduate academic scholarships is as follows:
Second-year postgraduates: Coursework score + Disciplinary penalty deduction + Quantified research award score
2. Coursework score calculation: Second-year postgraduates who have completed the required credits from French institutions or East China University of Science and Technology as per the training programme, and who have passed or been deemed to have passed their initial examinations, shall be awarded 5 points uniformly. During evaluation, postgraduates who initially failed but passed resits, those who have not completed the required credits, or those with outstanding resits will be directly allocated to the Third-Class Scholarship.
3. The annual scholarship pool for the National Excellence Postgraduate College shall be calculated in accordance with the Interim Measures for the Administration of Postgraduate Academic Scholarships at East China University of Science and Technology.
4. For any publications, patents, or innovation competition awards obtained during the assessment year, the quantitative scoring method is detailed in the appendix‘Academic Scholarship Scoring Table for Master's Students of the International Elite Engineering School’. For achievements related to graduate studies but not listed in the scoring table, the graduate student may submit an application. The score shall be determined after discussion and deliberation by the College's Academic Scholarship Review Working Group.
5. Penalty point deductions for disciplinary violations and calculation method:
Individuals responsible for using unauthorised electrical appliances in dormitories during the award year, as reported to the college by the dormitory management office, shall incur a deduction of 2 points for the first two occurrences. Upon a third occurrence, the academic scholarship shall be reduced to 5,000 yuan.
Individuals found in violation of the East China University of Science and Technology Laboratory Work Regulations (University Lab [2017] No. 1) during unscheduled laboratory safety inspections within the award year shall receive a formal reprimand for the first occurrence. Upon a second occurrence, the academic scholarship shall be reduced to 5,000 yuan.
IV. Review Organisation and Procedures
1. During the annual academic scholarship review period, the School shall establish and publicly announce the membership of the Academic Scholarship Review Working Group as required, notifying students to submit relevant supporting documentation within the stipulated timeframe.
2. The Academic Scholarship Review Working Group shall conduct preliminary assessments in accordance with the university and School regulations governing academic scholarship evaluations.
3. Upon finalising the list of recipients, the working group shall display it within the school for no fewer than five working days. Following the display period without objection, the list shall be submitted to the university's Postgraduate Academic Scholarship Review Leadership Group for approval and subsequent display.
4. Appeals against the postgraduate academic scholarship assessment results may be lodged with the school's scholarship review working group during the school's display period. The working group shall promptly investigate and respond. Should the appellant remain dissatisfied with the school's response, they may request adjudication from the University Postgraduate Academic Scholarship Review Leadership Group during the university's public notice period.
5. The review of postgraduate academic scholarships shall adhere to the principles of impartiality, fairness, transparency, and merit-based selection. It shall strictly comply with relevant national education regulations and eliminate any fraudulent practices.
6. Exceptional circumstances shall be determined through deliberation by the Academic Scholarship Review Working Group.
7. These Interim Measures shall commence on a trial basis from September 2024. The final interpretation of these Measures rests with the International Elite Engineering School.
