On the morning of September 18,the opening ceremony for the international education freshmen of the class of 2025 at East China University of Science and Technology was grandly held in the Yifu Building auditorium on the Xuhui campus.The International Elite Engineering School,as the cradle for cultivating international excellent engineers at the university,welcomed the freshmen of 2025.They joined with international students from the International Education College from 76 countries and regions around the world to gather at East China University of Science and Technology and jointly embark on a new journey of learning.
Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Vice President of East China University of Science and Technology,Zhu Weihong,delivered a welcome speech titled"Together ECUST,Together Future."He pointed out that the freshmen of the class of 2025 have diverse backgrounds.There are students admitted through the comprehensive evaluation in Shanghai with the highest scores,as well as the holder of the first admission notice of the class of 2025 at East China University of Science and Technology.There are also high-scoring students admitted in Heilongjiang Province,champions from various regions in the"Chinese Bridge"competition,and students from all over the world,including Russia,the United States,Italy,the United Arab Emirates,and Saudi Arabia.He offered three pieces of advice to the Chinese and international freshmen:First,to study hard and actively explore the beauty of campus life.Second,to embrace challenges and turn difficulties into opportunities for self-breakthrough.Third,to broaden their horizons and become builders of the times with a global consciousness.
Jacques,the French Dean of the International Elite Engineering School,welcomed the Chinese students'choice of the International College of Excellent Engineers.He said that the college has built a unique and excellent engineer training system,committed to cultivating engineering elites who are deeply rooted in China and have a global vision.
At the opening ceremony,Wang Haohao,the holder of the first admission notice of the class of 2025 and a freshman of the IInternational Elite Engineering School,spoke on behalf of the Chinese students.He shared his experience of being influenced by a family engaged in the chemical industry and serving as a volunteer for a"red journey"since childhood,where he learned about the stories of senior revolutionaries such as Zhou Enlai and Deng Xiaoping who studied and worked in France.He expressed his pursuit of the ideal of"serving the country through engineering"and called on his classmates to write a new chapter of youth in the new era with a diligent,pragmatic,and ambitious attitude.
Five international freshmen from Saudi Arabia,Slovenia,Brazil,and France also shared their initial reasons for choosing East China University of Science and Technology and their expectations for future studies.
Wu Chunye,the representative of the parents of the freshmen and the general manager of Liaoning Dingjide Petrochemical Co.,Ltd.,said that education is a bridge that transcends national boundaries.Entering university is not only a new beginning but also a platform that can help children broaden their horizons,enhance their abilities,and move towards the future.The university provides students with an international training path and a valuable environment for growth.She hopes that the students will cherish every day at East China University of Science and Technology and bravely pursue their dreams.
The opening ceremony also held the award-giving ceremony for the international freshmen scholarships of the class of 2025.Five students from the International Elite Engineering School,Wang Haohao,Liu Minghao,Xu Kaiyuan,Wang Zixin,and Sang Tian,received the International Education Presidential Award.
Subsequently,the freshmen and parents'meeting of the International Elite Engineering School was held as scheduled in the Yifu Building auditorium.The meeting was presided over by Vice Dean Wang Li.Vice Dean Huang Guantuan gave a detailed introduction to the college's training program and distinctive courses.Class tutors and counselors also shared their educational insights based on their own experiences and expressed their earnest expectations and best wishes to the freshmen.
